Federal Court confirmed Entitlements of Casual Employment

Recently there was a lot of publicity about the Federal Court case in which a casual was awarded back payment for Annual and Personal Leave. This led to concern that all casual employees could potentially ‘double dip’ and receive highly hourly rates as well as leave entitlements. There was a lot of press about this and many of our clients were extremely concerned about cost spiralling out of control.

Students Set Themselves Up for Career Success

On Friday 29th May Therese Ravell, Director of Impact HR, the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand (IML ANZ) and Victoria University came together for a joint event attended by approximately 50 students ‘Set Yourself Up for Career Success’. We were impressed with how many participants have adapted to this ‘new’ virtual world and that the sense of community is so strong. Nice to see that although we may be isolated, there are ways of staying connected. Students praised the virtual event saying, “I just wanted to say thank you for the great chat from earlier. I actually messaged my old careers mentor after the chat, asking to pick his brain on job hunting in the upcoming months, owing to the advice given in the online event.”

Minimum Wage Decision 2020

The Fair Work Commission has announced the minimum wage increase for 2020 which applies to all Modern awards. Minimum wages across all awards will increase by 1.75% with varying effective dates depending on which award employees are covered by.
