Creative recruitment solutions

27 October 2022

If you’ve tried to recruit recently, you might have experienced a problem… there’s not a lot of the right people out there!

Across most industries, role types, and businesses, everyone is struggling to find the right candidate. Sometimes finding any candidates can be an obstacle.

So, what’s the solution?

Although you can still find success through the traditional recruitment channels, we’re finding that sometimes the perfect candidate isn’t looking in these places. Seek and other traditional job advertising sites are still effective and often successful places to find candidates. These sites can also be a great way to manage your vacancy and candidates by driving people to one place to apply.

Recently Impact HR have had success with a few less traditional recruitment strategies we wanted to share with you.

Local schools. If your role is part time or you can provide a level of flexibility with start and finish times, looking to your local school network can be a great strategy. Find out which schools are close to your office and then email the schools a link to the advert with a small explanation of the role. Ask if they can post the advert in their newsletter, on their website or any closed Facebook groups. They might charge a small fee or do it for free. This is a really cost effective way to reach your local community and has the added bonus of highlighting your business to your local area.

LinkedIn. Some businesses find success with LinkedIn Recruiter but there can also be a lot of merit in using your connections on LinkedIn to fill your vacancy. Did you know you can sort your connections by industry or job title? Your perfect candidate might already be one of your connections. Once you have sorted your connections you can send them the role link. If they are not right or not looking to change roles right now, maybe they know someone who is.

Facebook community groups. Facebook Job pages can be great but often don’t provide the responses we would like to see. In a similar fashion to using your local schools, using local community Facebook pages could provide you with the right candidate who is local and looking to be engaged with a local business.

Internal. Although not a new concept, have you thought about who the people already work for you might know? Your current employees are the best people to know who might fit the business culture and will likely only refer people who they think are suitable. Having an internal referral program which offers some sort of incentive can also be an effective recruitment strategy. This can help to manage your workforce planning by always having a new candidate pipeline.

Candidate Searching. Websites such as seek offer candidate search functions when you post an ad. This is a tool which allows you to use credits to search the back end of seek to find people who might be appropriate for your role. You can search on different criteria such as last job, when they last updated their CV, what kind of work they are looking for and then send them the role directly. This can be a great way of getting your advert into their inbox without them having to find the role on seek. We know they are actively looking so this might be the final push to have them apply.
